Who We Are

Understanding Community Foundations

We envision a vibrant and generous community that comes together to enhance the quality of life for all.

At CFAAC we know that every ONE of us makes a difference. That is why we are focused on growing philanthropy one person, one family, one business at a time. The more of us who give, the more good we can do for our community, together.

The Community Foundation's role is to promote philanthropy, help to identify critical needs in Anne Arundel County, partner with donors to help them meet their philanthropic and financial goals, and promote collaboration to help strengthen local nonprofits.

CFAAC 2021-2025 Strategic Plan

In 2020, CFAAC reached a significant milestone – achieving our goal of increasing the foundation’s assets from $10 million to $20 million dollars by the year 2020 – thanks to donors, fund advisors, community partners, board members, and staff. Our Board of Trustees and staff also worked together to update the existing strategic plan for 2021-2025, confirming CFAAC’s three strategic priorities for impact and growth – Community Impact & Leadership, Donor-Centered Philanthropy, and Organizational Excellence – that will serve to guide the organization over the next five years. About CFAAC

Our mission is to inspire and promote giving in Anne Arundel County by connecting people who care with causes that matter.

CFAAC is a tax exempt, 501(c)(3), publicly supported philanthropic organization with the long term goal of building permanent funds that provide support to local nonprofit organizations through grants and special projects.

Established in 1998, CFAAC is one of the largest funders of nonprofit organizations in Anne Arundel County. CFAAC distributes $4 to $6 million in grants each year to a variety of nonprofit organizations.

With support from local donors, we have created a permanent endowment whose earnings will be used to reinvest in the community year after year. As the endowment grows, so will our ability to provide support for community projects that need our attention.

We are committed to increasing access to high-quality capacity-building training for nonprofit professionals to ensure more effective and efficient nonprofits in the county.

Through our Community Needs Assessment: Poverty Amidst Plenty we are helping to create awareness about the issues in Anne Arundel County that impact the economy and quality of life.  We monitor all areas of community need—including human services, education, the environment, healthcare, the arts, and economic development.
