Martha Van Woerkom 

Community Volunteer

Martha Van Woerkom grew up in Northern California where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance at the University of California Davis. She spent most of her career at Shell Oil Company in Houston, Texas, where she held various finance, budgeting, and audit positions. Loving Texans but not so fond of the Houston climate, she and her former husband took advantage of a career opportunity for him and settled in the Annapolis area in 1998.  

While raising two boys, she was a dedicated volunteer at the Anne Arundel County Public Schools where they attended. She also served on the Board of her neighborhood Community Association, volunteered at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, and worked part-time doing accounting work for a local business. Martha has been a repeat Celebration of Philanthropy Sponsor and served as a volunteer Fund For Anne Arundel committee member helping to determine funding priorities before serving as a grant reviewer for the fund’s first round of grant making.

Now that she’s an empty-nester, Martha is committed to giving back to her community where she has enjoyed living for 22 years.
