Trash is often one of the most fundamental environmental issues for communities, yet the issues go far beyond litter control. Decisions about how to manage waste have critical implications for environmental justice, air quality, water quality, climate change, community pride, land use decisions, soil health, economic development, job creation, and the definition of renewable energy.  This session offers a panoramic view of policies and practices that are gaining traction in Maryland and leading toward a Zero Waste society.  We will hear from Brenda Platt of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance and Mike Ewall of Energy Justice Network, on trends in incineration, composting, recycling, etc. and their work with specific Maryland communities.
